Bio:

An average singer would think that once they started playing to audiences of 10,000 or more they had achieved exactly what they dreamed of. Well, Vy is not your average singer, which is good because she doesn’t make your average music. Vy (pronounced “vee”) is a singer and performer with a very unique background. Vietnamese by way of Australia, Vy was born into a musical family since she is the daughter of one of the biggest pioneers in Vietnamese folk music (Phuong Dung). With an uncanny natural singing ability Vy’s talent was recognized at a young age when she became the first child singer to be signed to the prestigious Vietnamese label Thuy-Nga (Paris By Night). Not being one to rest on her natural abilities Vy jumped at the chance to study music. She became a classically trained singer with a rich background in operatic technique as well as newer styles like blues and R&B. Continuing to perform to large audiences of 10,000 or more Vy has emerged as a leader in the new generation of Vietnamese pop singers. Vy isn’t trying to pump out the standard, formulaic bubblegum pop songs. Her music is broader and more varied than that. It’s as unique as she is. It incorporates sounds and styles from more than just the American charts. Her songs also mix in world aesthetics by bringing in a certain amount of influence found in the Korean and Japanese charts as well. Vy is the first to combine all these varied musical styles from Vietnamese dance music to trip hop to create her own disco / R&B / pop hybrid. Think of it as “left of center pop” – not completely alternative but not total sugar coated disposable pop. Her all original American record is in the works. There is so much more to come….
